The Solway Firth Spaceman

In 1964, photographer, fireman and local historian, Jim Templeton, took a photograph of his 5 year old daughter, out in the middle of a field in Cumbria, England. However, when Jim Templeton later reviewed the photo's, he noticed a strange figure in the background that appeared to be an astronaut. This later became known as the Solway Firth Spaceman.

Though in the photo, Jim claimed with certainty that no one was actually in the background of the photo, as him and his daughter were the only people present there that day. Down to curiosity, the image was widely reproduced in Newspapers and later gained the attention of ufologists. They claimed that the 'figure in the space suit' was in fact the photographers wife with her back towards the camera. Claiming that her dress had turned white due to overexposure, however Jim remained positive his wife was not there.

Analysts at the widely known photography brand, Kodak, have confirmed that the photograph was genuine and was not tampered with in any way.

The mystery of the Solway Firth Spaceman remains unsolved to this day.
